Program Accommodations

Accommodation options at Succurro include staying in one of our raised platform tents or one of our apartments in the main house. While rustic, our tents are very comfortable and offer a way of immersing oneself on the land. Succurro is located on 110 acres, that was previously one of the main dairy farms in the area. The Haudenosaunee (specifically Mohawk and Oneida) are the traditional stewards of this land. There are open fields of wildflowers and brush, a stream to wade in, woods and hawthorn groves. We raise chickens, goats, pigs, and bees, and grow vegetables, flowers, and herbs. The stars are bright, and the leaves rustle; coyote and owls sound their nocturnal calls.

Our classes are small and intimate, and offer an alternative to learning in hotel conference rooms. We aim to provide a space to both immerse and integrate what is being learned by simply being on the land together. Please read below for more specific details on what it means to stay here.

For trainings and classes, we recognize not everyone will be comfortable in these accommodations — at the bottom of this page is a list of recommended places to stay nearby.

Succurro Tents

Our raised platform tents are situated up the hill (a 5-7 minute moderate walk) from the main house, and barns, overlooking the valley. We have little-to-no cell service here, so it is possible to disconnect from digital aspects of life. There is a firepit for sharing stories from the day.

The tents offer a mix of private and shared accommodations: two tents have a queen bed, and two tents have a full and twin bed. Each has a small dresser, and shelves for storage. The front porches, with adirondack chairs, allow for watching the sunset over the valley. All linens and towels are provided, and there are plenty of wool blankets and hot water bottles for sleeping comfort.

ABOUT THE RESTROOM FACILITIES

Tent guests use two outhouses — one by the tents, and one by the outdoor kitchen. Both are very comfortable, hand-built composting toilets, that are kept very clean.

The outdoor showers are nestled into the hawthorn grove, halfway down the hill. The showers are tapped into the natural springs on the mountain, and we ask that guests use only the bio-degradable shampoo and conditioner that is provided.

ABOUT FOOD AND DINING SPACE

There are two spaces we utilize for dining: the outdoor kitchen, and the classroom apartment kitchen. Which we use is dependent on the class or program. The outdoor kitchen is down the hill, and is semi-enclosed with plenty of dining space, and a firepit for hanging out. The kitchen is equipped with grills, pots & pans, dishes, glasses, silverware, cooking basics and utensils, fridges, etc. However, during classes and trainings, all food is prepared in the main house and brought to the dining area for students. Students do not need to cook their own meals.

Majority of the food provided comes from the land at Succurro, or nearby farms and local sources. We keep the menu simple, but delicious, and generally gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegetarian with protein and dairy options so that we can easily accommodate various diets.

A sample menu for each day looks like:

  • Breakfast: coffee & teas; oatmeal; eggs; homemade granola & yogurt; fruit

  • Lunch: seasonal soup; fresh sourdough bread; bean and grain salads; local cheeses

  • Dinner: fresh or warm green salads; roasted vegetables; grain dishes; fish, chicken, or other protein options

INTERNET ACCESS

Cell service is limited at Succurro, which can be true for many pockets of the area. Depending on your provider, you may get perfectly good service at the top of the hill at the tents. There is a land-line at the main house to use in the case of emergencies.

You can also connect to our WiFi near the main house. We have tables in the garden area and on the front porch to sit at during class breaks and use the internet.

Succurro Apartments

There are two private indoor accommodations that are available for most programs and classes:

STUDIO APARTMENT

The Studio Apartment is attached to the main house, with a private entrance, bathroom, small kitchen, and bedroom with a queen bed, sitting area, and clothes storage.

CLASSROOM APARTMENT

The Classroom Apartment is called such in this case, because it is where we often run some classes and programs. It is a large apartment, with private entrance that opens into a very large space where class is held on the ground floor, along with a full kitchen. Down the hall is and bathroom, and above it there is a lofted bedroom with a queen bed and clothes storage. So, this space is private and lovely, but is sometimes shared during the day with the class or programs activities.

Staying Somewhere Else…

We recognize not everyone will be comfortable in these accommodations for all kinds of reasons— below is a list of places nearby we recommend! During the Summer months this is a popular area, so we recommend booking something as soon as you can if you wish to stay somewhere else.

Please note: as we develop Covid policies over the years, we may ask people staying nearby to Succurro, to eat their meals here to avoid going to restaurants and grocery stores during class time. Everyone will be notified with plenty of time of current covid policies.
